What Is Digital Eye Strain?

Digital eye strain is a condition that occurs when your eyes get tired from intense use, such as staring at a screen.

Symptoms of digital eye strain can include:

  • Blurred vision
  • Headaches
  • Watery or dry eyes
  • Increased sensitivity to light
  • Red eyes
  • Eye twitching

Tips to Relieve Digital Eye Strain

Changing the way you interact with digital screens is key to helping you relieve digital eye strain. Bella Vision has some easy tips you can implement on your own to help your eyes find some relief.

Every 20 minutes take a 20-second break, and stare at something 20 feet away. This allows your eyes to take a well deserved rest.

People tend to blink less when staring at a screen. Keeping your eyes moisturized with eye drops can help prevent your eyes from drying out.

Sitting at a desk with poor posture can increase your chances of digital eye strain symptoms. Make sure you’re sitting up straight, rather than slumping over your keyboard, and that your screen isn’t too close to your eyes. The ideal distance of your screen should be 20 to 28 inches from your face, with the screen slightly below eye level.

Fingerprints and smudges can lead to reduced visual clarity. Additionally, aim to reduce screen glare by closing your blinds and dimming overhead lights to help relieve your eye stress.
