Common Types of
Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK is a type of laser eye surgery performed to correct vision. During LASIK, an ophthalmologist creates a thin flap in the surface of your eye to gain access to the tissue underneath, which is reshaped with a laser to correct your vision. After the procedure, the ophthalmologist places the flap back over your eye to heal.

LASIK can be beneficial for those affected by astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia. This surgery generally lasts 30 minutes, with patients generally achieving 20/25 vision or better after their eyes have healed.

PRK is a type of refractive surgery where the cornea is reshaped with a laser to help correct vision. Like LASIK, PRK can be used to treat astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia.

PRK surgery generally takes about 15 minutes, and 90% of those who have PRK end up with 20/40 vision or better without glasses or contact lenses.
